Chapter 14: Giverny (and/or Blois, Chambord): Nature and Landscapes and the Future of the Humanities

The planet does not exist as a set of factors alone. It exists as a set of systems that are intertwined just as the internal organs of the body work together to make up systems that will be able to sustain life. In nature there exist similar systems such as the food chain, and the water cycle which work together to restore balance to the earth. In the event of the deterioration or the elimination of any of the components which contribute to the sustenance of life other systems are damaged or eliminated as well. In history such proof exists in the remainders of that which once was part of a cycle such as a tree in the Galapagos island which to this date awaits the return of the dodo bird which is said to have been the main consumer of its fruits and whose digestive tract served as the sole source for the dispersion of its seeds. This tree whose fruit's taste is intolerable to any other animal will go extinct because the bird went extinct . To make amends for the destructive cycle that society has created i will encourage others to stray from the vicious cycle of consumerism in which society is found. The media encourages the at time encourages the responsible consumption for the betterment of the world but at the same time continues to deceive the public by affirming that their products aid in the diminished used of certain resources. The culture of consumerism has been deeply seeded within society by generations of people who seek to fulfill their desires for wealth. The media creates images for the public of unreachable proportions in order to procure the continued purchase of their products with disregard for the general welfare of the public. At times simple items such as shampoo that are considered basic to the hygiene are found to contain chemicals that are known to damage the health of the person through prolonged exposure. Chemicals such as formaldehyde and other embalming chemicals many times form part of the daily activities of a person during their lifetime.
