Chapter 11: Museum of Modern Art: Modernism, Post-Modernism, & Post-Post- Modernism

The interpretation of art is able to differ from person to person. While some art aims to manipulate the emotions of its public there are also other pieces which aim to manipulate the thoughts of the viewer or cause them to create an idea. In addition to such goals there are also pieces of art which aim to cause no such aims in the public but rather just to shock the viewer. Modern art as referred by the art that is considered contemporary is radical in that it concentrates on the interests of what the artist chooses. The piece may have no intended message. The modern art seems radical to people due to the message or lack of message it conveys to the public. Throughout history there have been periods of art that have caused the other to consider them radical and in my opinion modern art is similar in that sometimes in order to cause that shock the composition must be designed with skill. We have studied the impressionist movement which was equally at its time considered radical but the range of the media has increased as so has the subject and the messages that are given by the artwork.Avant garde art was defined as art that could decorate any object or could be any object this pieces of art defined the established institution and sought to destroy . The movement aimed to throw society off  .Post modernism which aims to destroy the ideals and the norms that are firmly established through the foundation of society can also be considered radical. As a form of art it made the effort to convey no message to the public but at the same time it still conveyed to the public the desire for the public to accept just what they produced as it were.
