Chapter 13: Natural History Museum: The Divide Between Humans and Other Animals

The invention of new technology has allowed for the creation of the solution of various maladies that at some point where considered signs of imminent death. While this has allowed for the prolongation and the salvation of human lives it has also created a new problem for those who are to inherit the planet. The prolongation of human life has allowed for the over population of cities and an increased demand in the production of edibles. In addition to the increased demand in production of food it has placed a considerable strain on the infrastructure of various cities that do not have the resources to secure its citizens with a habitable home. In addition a greater strain has also been placed on the basic amenities placing the earth in danger due to rate at which the earth is being consumed. The form in which earth is being consumed has yielded estimates in which fresh water, top soil, forests and fish face imminent extinction. Human has struggled attempting to tame nature and conquer the resources that earth has the offer. Such reckless consumption of resources fueled by the greed and the ability of humans to consciously partake in the administration of the planet should be reasons for humans to take responsibility of the damaging actions that have been encouraged and spread through generations. In my opinion as human beings we should be able to coexist with the other inhabitants of earth. I view superiority as having a responsibility towards those whom with we share the earth. We possess the capability of reasoning but just as it is imperative to preserve life it is also imperative to teach how to properly be part of the planet. The goal of humans should not be to exist but rather to be. The human experience is filled with connections that are created through society. This connections are vital to the coexistence and as such the complete disconnection from the interactions in the world should not be encouraged. Technology yields more and more the alienation of the individual damaging the outlook of the world for groups as a whole. The alienation and the creation of a society in which individuals have indulged in arrogance helps to create a society in which intolerance and lack of empathy propagate. If world leaders were to have learned what i have during my study abroad trip i would still not be guarantee the world would be a different place since it would depend highly on their own choices.
