Chapter 12 : Museum of French Cinema: The Marriage of Art and Technology

Cinema has become one of the main entertainment industries in the world. To those who were born with the luxury of televisions and films flooding the television, cinema is seen as a thing of every day but to those who were born without it they are able to appreciate the radical change it caused to the world. To me cinema is an art just as a painter or an artist would create a work of art film requires the writing talent in addition to the talent of other people who help form films. Similar to photography filming requires the arrangement of the subject as well as of the elements. It requires for lighting to be altered and for the human subjects to be guided by the director in order to present a complete piece of art. The ideas presented by the the cinema art critic in reference to the invention of photography refer to the obsession of artists in conquering the art techniques that will yield realistic painting but with the invention of photography such obsession is no longer necessary as photography allows for things to be presented as they are in contrast to painting that is the artist's point of view.   The film modern times by charlie Chaplin provides a criticism of the industrial worker during the great depression. the workers of such factories suffered greatly due to the disregard of the corporations for their workers while at the same time nearly enslaving them for the benefit of the wealth. Charlie Chaplin seems to defy technology by using technology through two aspects  he utilizes a series of whimsical contraptions to exaggerate the treatment of the workers who were in charge of running the machines in the factory. It defied the technology used by the factories by contrasting them with his own methods such as a tube which fed the worker so he would not have to leave his post in the conduction of the machine. He also defies technology by using film to present his criticism of societies' laborer conditions.
